Looking for something different in Madison? Make your way to DLux, a burger joint far from your typical ground beef and buns. Located right off the Square, DLux offers “outside the box” burgers. The only plain and simple part of the menu is that all burgers are a reasonable eight bucks. DLux creations include beef burgers like The Standard (butter lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, American cheese and mayonnaise), the Carnegie (corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and Russian dressing) and the Pimento Cheeseburger (housemade pimento cheese spread, bacon, baby greens and local bell pepper jelly). Though their innovation really stands out with their sorta burgers; The California Chicken Club (butter lettuce, monterey jack, tomato, bacon and avocado-ranch spread – shown above), Ginger Salmon (carrot, daikon, jicama asian salad and wasabi mayo), Southwestern White Bean (poblano chile, queso sauce and blue corn tortilla strips) and many more.
This burger had me at Sriracha. The White Fish & Shrimp burger is topped with creamy Sriracha cabbage slaw. A fish sandwich that can get you hooked. It has a familiar texture like crab cakes but instead of lump crab, you get shrimp in each bite. And surprisingly, the patty holds well together so you don’t have to worry about it falling apart as you pick up burger for your next bite.
Imagine this, warm sweet potato fries, soft on the inside with a little textural crunch on the outside, with spicy-tangy sriracha mayo. The sweet potato fries taste delicious on their own, but why stop there? DLux don’t leave you hanging with just great food, they’re going to give you awesome food by giving you sriracha mayo. Skip boring condiments and give your taste buds something different.
And who’d think that a way to make a caprese salad better was to make it a burger. The Portobello Caprese is layered with fresh mozzarella, tomato, baby greens and basil mayonnaise with balsamic reduction. So delicious and packed with flavor, it makes other burgers [outside of DLux] fall short.
DLux has a lot to offer. Outside of their beef burger and sorta burgers, their innovation carries through thier DLux dips, salads, house soda, sides, shake and many unique beverages. For dinner, I recommend you make a reservation, the space can easily fill up.
