Middleton, WI is continuing to do a great job of bringing all different unique fares to the area including Albanian tradition by Sofra Family Bistro. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch, Sofra has something special in every menu.
For lunch, Sofra has everything from paninis, wraps, salads and burgers but I love ordering from their bistro sandwich section and most especially, the entrees. Served with homemade soup or salad (I get their soup all the time; there’s always something different, unique and satisfying), the entree menu has unique dishes like Albanian Qebap (sausages) and Chicken Apolonia. Although the Beef Skewers don’t sound unique, the flavors were very special (tenderloin beef marinated in Mediterranean spice, grilled and served with zucchini, hummus, rice and yogurt-dill sauce). The beef held such great grill flavors without any char pieces and maintained a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. I cleaned my plate to the point it looked like it was never used.
For brunch, there’s even more you can choose from. From benedicts, omelettes, pancakes and french toast to eggs skillets, waffles and many specials. And yes, there are egg combos such as the Sirlon Top Steak (6 oz., two eggs, potatoes and toast). Yeah you can get it from other locations that serve brunch, but Sofra’s steak and eggs are done amazingly. You may find yourself at Sofra for brunch regularly. If you’re looking to try something different, no worries, Sofra’s large brunch menu will have something for you to try. Just navigate through and you’ll find Albania touches throughout.
And now to the dinner menu, another large variety where sadly you have to sacrifice a dish for another day. I had their Beeftek specialty made with Lumani’s artisan homemade lamb and beef patty stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, red crushed peppers, kajmak and served with lemon oregano potatoes. Imagine a fully stuffed meatloaf with cheese oozing inside and out. This is how all meat patty dishes should be served. This Beeftek dish should have been born in Wisconsin.
Of course there’s something for everyone at Sofra. Great veggie dishes extends throughout their menu with great variety and an Albanian touch. The vegetable plate you can get from either menu (grilled eggplant, hummus, spinach pie, sweet pepper, dolmas, goat cheese and tomato) can fill even a carnivore and satisfy with the amazing flavors from the grilled veggies, hummus and the yogurt sauce.
So make your trip out to Sofra and go through an amazing Albanian experience with your taste buds.
